Why is my trial archwire square?
I just got my lead changed for my braces (they said it was a size 20), and I came home and notice that it's square shaped instead of rounded. I was curious about the purpose of a square telecommunication.
Thanks :)
Answers:
A square wire allows for more controlled movement of the teeth. The slots in the brackets are square, so a square cable cannot turn freely in the slot the way a round flex can. This means the teeth can't freely tip in unwanted directions. A square telecommunication is usually put on once the teeth are looking fairly straight. You might not notice so lots obvious changes as you did next to the early round wires, but the roots of your teeth will be moving to catch up beside the crowns (round wires mostly move the crowns of the teeth and not the roots).
